There are various types of drills like cordless drills, core drills, hammer drills, pistol-grip drills, right-angle drills and screw guns.

By power tool, we mean a tool that is powered by an electric motor, a compressed air motor or a gasoline engine. There are two kinds of power tools- stationary (corded) or portable (cordless). Power tools are helpful in industrial metal working, wood work, in construction, for drilling and sanding, cutting and shaping, grinding, painting and polishing.

When you decide on buying a cordless drill, there are some things that should be taken care of. A cordless power drill works on battery voltage ranging from the basic 9.6 v- 18 v. The recently available high voltage drills are able to bore large holes in flooring too. It has to be noted that as the voltage increases, the weight of the drill increases too. Next point to be considered is the drill’s grips. A cordless drill has a T-handle and gives balance and is convenient in small spaces too. But this may not be as suitable as a pistol grip for heavy-duty drilling jobs, as it does not provide the pressure behind the bit.

Another part of the cordless drill is the clutch, an adjustable part which is present only in cordless drills. It makes a clicking sound when the resistance limit is exceeded while driving a screw etc. This is very useful as it ensures safety. The drills are available with various clutch settings for different screw sizes. This way you can adjust according to your needs. After that, go for the cordless drill that has two speed settings. Thus you can switch between two speeds for drilling screws and holes.

Last but not the least, always opt for Nickel- metal- hydride (NiMH) batteries, as they are smaller and have a longer life than the usual nickel- cadmium batteries. They can be disposed off without causing harm to the environment, as they do not contain the toxic cadmium. Currently, only Makita, Bosch, Hitachi and DeWalt offer NiMH batteries. You can buy cordless drills online through the company’s website or visit the company showroom for the same. Do not forget to check out different websites that offer discounts on branded power tools before you buy your own cordless power drill!
